A little bit about The Fishy Pig and our soap.
One day my doctor told me to stop using liquid soap. She said it was the cause of all my “girly there” problems. She said, “use bar soap, it has less chemicals, go as natural as possible.” Well, even bar soap is pretty chemical laden.
So, we went to our local “granola” grocery store. They had simple ingredient soaps. My husband said, “I wonder if we could make this ourselves.” I said of course we could, and there the journey started. We do cold process soap. It uses the chemical process of mixing sodium hydroxide lye into water and then with an oil(s). The saponification gives us soap. We want to make this clear because we are playing with dangerous chemicals and think it is cool!
Our soap has gone through many iterations and shapes. We have experimented with multiple oils, essential oils, colorants, and complimentary ingredients. Through it all we committed to a few key points. We want our soap as simple, sustainable, natural, and ethical as possible. To the best of our ability and knowledge, we will never use ingredients that are not ethically sourced. We are committed to using only natural, essential oils for fragrance . . . if fragrance is used. Our colorants are derived from plants and spices. To that end, our soap will always have a tendency to reflect earthy, warm colors. Don’t be alarmed that you see a short ingredient list. That is the simplicity we are looking for. Pretty much everyone can pronounce every component of our soap.
The Fishy Pig soap is meant to be your every day, every-day soap. Plain. Simple. Good!
